On Tuesday, April 19, 2022 the De Soto #73 Board of Education approved the Innovative Learning Center plan to provide support for students who struggle with Academics, Attendance and Behavior. This Learning Center will be staffed with certified teachers to provide direct instruction and instructional support.
Grades K-5
Athena and Vineland will have one Recovery room teacher at each campus. This teacher will function similar to our current SPED Behavior Specialist rooms, providing de-escalation and recovery rooms, as well as direct instruction on behavior and social emotional needs.
The following positions will support this plan:
VES Behavioral Support Specialist
AES Behavioral Support Specialist
Grades 6-12
A coordinator will be in charge of student onboarding and parent communications, discipline, DAATS, Missouri Options, and Recovery Rooms. The district is seeking three teachers with certifications in ELA, Math, and Science, with multiple certifications preferred. Additionally a floating paraprofessional will be utilized to help with Missouri Options, DAATS, and Recovery rooms. A Counselor will also be provided either through grant funding or shared from current staff in other buildings.

ESSER III funds will be used to cover the cost through FY24.
