De Soto School District Transportation Department

De Soto places the highest priority on the safety of each student. The transportation department has numerous measures in place to guarantee safety during rides to and from school. State law requires school districts to provide transportation for students who are three and a half miles away from school and does not require schools to accommodate more than one bus stop for any student.

Parents will be able to register their child(ren) for bus service prior to the start of school. You will find your student’s bus information on the parent portal. Keep in mind that the pick up and drop off times may change slightly based on new student registration and/or student’s that no longer ride the bus.
Families will only be allowed to select one permanent pick-up/drop-off address (these can be different). Students are not allowed to ride any bus other than their assigned bus. We will not accommodate day to day bus changes. A change in schedule must be done in writing, must be done at least 24 hours in advance, must be done through the transportation department, and done for a minimum of one calendar week (M-F) long change, and remain consistent. Emergencies are handled through the building principal, who will work with our police officers and intervention specialist to assist families if needed, but cannot be accommodated through a bus change.
It is important that you contact the bus garage if you move or your child’s permanent stop location changes.
Assigned seats will be given to each student.
Bus drivers will take attendance on every route.
Hand sanitizer will be available on every bus to encourage hand hygiene upon boarding and exiting the bus.
Signage pertaining to handwashing, social distancing, coughing, hygiene, face cloth covering recommendations will be posted.
No open food or drink will be allowed on the bus.
All transportation district personnel will be trained on proper cleaning and sanitizing procedures.
Buses will be cleaned daily and each bus will be wiped down once a week in order to remove any cleaning residue built up over the week and then disinfected with Non-Acid RR/Disinfected.
